Dearest SPAN friends: Many years ago, when Keith and I were first together, we helped raise a young girl, Cadence, from 9 months old to 9 years old - at which point her birth mother, who had never relinquished custody, took her away and never let us see her again. (We've kept her picture in a frame in our living room all these years, and we've kept many of her things, including dresses I made her, pictures and scrapbooks, Raggedy Ann doll, etc.) It has been about 18-19 years since then, and we have tried in many ways to find her, year by year, losing hope. Just two weeks ago, she found us! She found us through the internet! She is now 27 years old, at Hunter College studying psychology, working full-time managing a deli, and doing very well. (When she was with us, we dealt with her seizures, her difficulties in math and reading - I taught her how to read! We had addressed or solved most of her problems when her birth mom took her away.) We are going to see her again for the first time in almost two decades in a week...and we are so excited! I just wanted to share this news with all of you because you are all so dear to my heart and because I know you all share a mother's love...Much love always, Diana
