
Increasing Meeting Attendance and Productivity
v Invite guess speakers.
v Include time in each meeting for people
to make connections and get to know one another.
v Start and end the meeting on time.
v Separate ‘Support’ meetings and other
type meetings from educational meetings
v Have an Educational Speaker
v Hold meetings on a consistent day and
location
v Invite
the superintendent to talk at a meeting
v Provide childcare, often the High School
has clubs and other groups that are willing to help.
v Include
general education parents in a forum on topics of general interest such as
'Inclusion'. Discuss the benefits for all children (for students, teachers, and
parents)
v Meet with
the Superintendent periodically to summarize the concerns of the group.
v Hold a
social meeting or event. Many parents find this is a good way to connect and
support one another.
v During
meetings strive to be positive. For every need you identify try to also identify
strength.
v Invite the
Director of Special Education for select meetings.
v Have
parents introduce themselves at the first meeting. Find out what families want
to get from the group.
v Invite
staff to discuss programs and services that are offered in the district.
v Use topics
that require only one meeting.
