Introduction to Code Mandates for Student Support Services

New Jersey's Administrative Code - 6A:16 - Support Services, mandates districts to provide an array of student support services and corresponding policies and procedures, which can prevent an address challenging behavior. In addition, "Subchapter 5 - School Safety" regulates a district's discipline policy. The district's discipline policy should integrate the regulatory mandates, be known by stakeholders, utilize research-based strategies to prevent and address challenging behavior, and be consistently implemented to be effective. The attached Newark Public School's discipline policy is based on the above legal mandates, as well as research-based strategies, which prevent and address challenging behavior. The hyperlinked copy of the discipline policy will assist stakeholders in knowing and accessing its provisions. In so doing, there is the hope that it will be more consistently implemented.
