Behavioral Contract
The student can be integrally involved in developing a contract, which memorializes targeted goals, and commitments by stakeholders. Teachers, administrators, parents, school-based intervention and IEP teams can utilize a forced choice menu of reinforecers with the student. A sample "Forced Choice Reinforcement Menu" and an example of a completed forced choice reinforcement menu, which were prepared by The Center For Effective Collaboration are attached to the corresponding hyperlinks for stakeholder to use. The student could then be actively involved in selecting reinforcers for decreases in challenging behavior and/or increases in pro social replacement behavior.
Once the challenging and pro social replacement behaviors, as well as reinforcing contingencies have been selected, developing a chart like the following with the student may be helpful. It can help memorialize agreed upon activities and responsibilities and can be continuously referenced for teaching and learning activities:
|
What If Chart (Student's Name) |
| Challenging Behavior | Replacement Behavior | What if you do? | What if you don't? |
| Chart could be individualized for each student. It enables student to be aware of agreed upon contingencies and ensures teacher remembers consequences. |
Then, based on the individual student's needs, the following behavioral contract can serve as a template, which stakeholders can utilize to memorialize agreed upon targets, contingencies, and commitments by stakeholders, with or without modifications,
|

|
| Teacher and parent will apply agreed upon contingencies on a weekly basis, based on agreed upon goals. |
